Patch Theft Sightings : Rules to live by...
As we all know, patch theft is a very real and very problematic behavior in Furcadia. Stemming from the want of people greedy enough to take without asking and snagging an item here or there, to vindictive individuals whom steal whole dreams or pay to have them stolen it is a keen practice that we must all be vigilant about.
I speak from my own experience of having patches stolen from myself by 2 very hurtful individuals, but it is up to us to police our own and pass the word along among fellow patch artists and dream weavers. So here are a few rules to follow when making an accusation on this form that MUST be followed.
1. Get a screenshot of the stolen patch with the dream name in the text box and put it in your post so we all know what to keep an eye out for.
2. Find the maker of the patch and post their listed furcadia name, as not all dream owners make their own patches.
3. Ask said dream owner to remove the patch FIRST! Be polite as you get more results with a nice attitude than with a demand. Most beginning dream weavers and patch artists don’t understand the unspoken courtesy that is a part of Furcadia. Teach them, make a friend if you can.
4. Do not make false allegations. Do your homework and check the public archive first for a distributed patch. Check for a credit file in your tmp dream folder for possible permission to distribute and/or alter a patch.
Anyone not found following these basic steps, flaming or doing hate spewing will be removed from this board, put up and publicly posted on the forums private “blacklist” board and/or your IP will be banned from the forums.
